So, good Sunday evening to you. It’s late and I am - yet again - on the run.

The below is less polished than sincere - and it’s a topic I think a lot about.

Trump’s Power of Positive Thinking in the Golden Age

In the fall of 1932, a young preacher climbed up into the pulpit at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Every Sunday for the next 50 years, that man preached from that pulpit. He wrote books, recorded radio and tv homilies, and became famous. And he changed the whole world. His name was Norman Vincent Peale.

A few years into his time at Marble Collegiate, that young preacher noticed a family who came to Church every Sunday. The family had children - three boys and two girls. One of the boys, Donald, listened, sometimes intently. Every Sunday, year after year, that boy heard who became a man was there

Those were the first encounters between one of the greatest American preachers, Norman Vincent Peale and one of the greatest American presidents, Donald J Trump.

What did Donald Trump hear every Sunday? A message of the Christian scripture and personal empowerment. If you read Peale’s classic book, The Power of Positive Thinking, you will find the definitive "self help” book … it teaches you how to be confident, intentional and fearless. But different than modern “self help” gurus, Peale was a Christian preacher. Every page is infused with God and the Holy Scripture.

Peale was a master communicator. He was a pioneer in radio, television, and in person preaching. And he was a writer. And he wrote more than just his famous book - he wrote thousands of homilies and essays.

But he was most famous for getting others to believe in themselves and act.

As you listened to President Trump in his first term, you heard a positive message of empowering Americans. It was strong and it was working. And it was cut short.

Since Butler, Pennsylvania last year, I hear and see a man transforming society with the positive Christian message. He seeks peace in the world, wants pardons at home (I know this firsthand) and keeps talking about individuals and families finding their ways to succeed.

We have a long way to go but the Power of Positive Thinking in Trump’s Golden Age is something to behold.

Dear Colleague,

Later this evening, President Donald J. Trump kicks off a year-long celebration of America’s 250^th year with a visit and speech at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. It promises to be a memorable speech. The President calls this year-long celebration America250 and he’s especially encouraging us to highlight American exceptionalism.

America is exceptional. While most other nations are defined by their boundaries or ethnicity, from our beginning America is defined by our values and ideals as well as by our constant drive to meet the expectations of these values and ideals. Ours was a special founding and it’s been an exceptional nearly 250 year success. America’s success was not guaranteed and even faced long odds.

In fact, there were many doubters who wonder how long this American experiment would last. Some even became famous for talking about a coming demise. Back in the 1800s Alexander Fraser Tytler, author of “Universal History,” wrote: “It is a matter of regret that democracy cannot be permanent. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself.”

He was quickly famous for what is called the Tytler Cycle in which he argued that nations first arise when people in bondage, through spiritual awakening and faith, experience a period of profound courage. This courage moves the people to obtain liberty which leads to flourishing and to abundance. From abundance, Tytler argues, the people slip into selfishness and apathy which leads to dependence. And this finishes off the Cycle as it brings people back to bondage. Destined to fail, that’s how he saw America.

I reject his cycle - it’s too simple and formulaic … plus it’s unAmerican! Tytler was a professor of history and a British Lord but he didn’t know us! He couldn’t even conceive how a society could break the cycle he had documented. But he only observed and studied the Netherlands, the Roman Republic and Athens. Tytler had a prejudice, held almost universally in Europe at that time, that a democracy could never prevail, but our forefathers in 1776 went ahead and did it anyway. But he obviously never knew America and we the people.

Every generation of Americans since our founding has lived the American dream in direct challenge to Tytler’s cycle and we’ve vanquished his cycle to the dusty bookshelf where it belongs. Through faith, courage and liberty, we have created tremendous abundance—and because of our ideals and their monition to us—we have regenerated our democracy through each crisis, always emerging stronger than before. We have not always been perfect as a nation – we’ve got some serious stuff wrong sometimes for a while – but we have always, always fought to make it right. And succeeded in doing so – as we will today.

For 250 years, we’ve defied expectations. Awesome. Historic. Exceptional. American.

I hope you find time this Independence Day - and throughout the next year - to participate in America250. It’s a monumental and exciting celebration of American history, designed to engage communities across the country, create lasting memories and foster a renewed commitment to America’s future.

Thank you for all you do for our work, for each other, and for America. Our Constitution – and in a special way the pardon power – show America at it finest as an instrument of life and goodness.

Was Walter Cronkite Lying?

Over the past few years, the news industry has been exposed as clearly and obviously fake. From Pulitzer Prizes awarded to New York Times reporters for lies to Dan Rather advocacy (not reporting) to cable “news” channels like MSNBC brainwashing viewers, few people bother to believe that the “news is honest.”

The news business - refashioned as the science of “journalism” with universities, curricula and high falutin language of “serving Democracy” - is shown to be on the take for USAID and government handouts OR dominated by one or two special interests.

All of it is simple: CORRUPT.

So, was Walter Cronkite lying?

It seems clear that the early era of news with guys like Cronkite (and his bosses) had the same bias and desire for power and money found in every human endeavor. The news over the past 100 years has made lots of money and had lots of influence and it’s hard to believe it was exempt from the corruption.

So, was Cronkite just biased or was he lying for a cause? I am not sure it matters or that we will ever know.

What we can see today - and say about it - is that the news is lying. They don’t even seem to hide it.

Which brings us to the question of history. Why would the writing of history and the “reporting“ of historical activity be exempt from the lying?

The answer is obviously that today’s historians cannot be called serious or their history trusted as true and honest.

I like to hold on to the belief that historians of the past were moral and honorable and better formed than the historian hacks of today. (Pliny the Younger was ok, right?) But it’s probably wishful thinking.

So how do I get out of bed in the morning and check the newspaper or study the history of an era with any confidence?

The answer is go to the source. Go as close as you can get through social media and primary sources. Observe closely.

And find a few good people who you trust and whom you can critique closely. If you can test them and trust them, that’s a gift. And uncommon.

Threats Against We the People

Good early morning.

What a few weeks in my life. More work than I have ever known and more chances to do good and be kind to people.

We have started to Make DC Safe Again. In just the past 8 days, we have charged 10 new gun crimes in federal district court - the thugs call this “big boy court” and they don’t like it because they know we will put away the bad guys who terrorize our DC citizens.

We also charged four thugs who dared to lay hands on cops. In the 7th District on Tuesday night, the thugs punched and assaulted cops. They were arrested and quickly charged with “assault on a police officer.” If you touch a cop - let alone hit one - we are going to charge you. “Defend the Blue” is real.

This week also found an uptick in “swatting” which is when bad people call the cops and send them to a home with a fearful description - “go to this address, there is a man with a gun who is threatening to kill someone.” Our fearless law enforcement race to the scene but it is all a sham. The cops are in danger during this and so are the people. Illegal and nasty harassment. It will stop and the people doing it will be held to account.

Also, we have seen more and more people "leaking” about their work in government or their own “truth” as they see it. What arrogance! Do these people really think they “sprung from the head of Zeus” and are the only ones who can serve in government or direct its work?

In my own office, my emails directly to my staff are regularly leaked - usually within minutes of an email, the press calls to read it and ask questions. Personally insulting and professionally unacceptable. But regularly happening.

Now, I’ll let you in on a secret: I don’t ever send an email that I don’t expect to see on the front page of the Washington Post. In fact, these days I send my emails as press notifications because I KNOW they will be leaked and covered.

But leaking is wrong. And, if you are reading this and you are one of those leaking, here’s a little clue for you: I am not sitting back and just taking the leaks as a fact of life. Nope, I am actively and carefully (quietly!) investigating. And when I find the leaks, you will find the accountability. As Coach Prime says: We comin’.

The fight goes on but as the sun rises and I think about a Saturday with sports, kids, college hoops and my dogs, I am all smiles.

God is good. All the time.

Making DC safe and beautiful

It’s been a busy few weeks … lots to learn and many to meet.

The U.S. Attorney for DC is the nation’s capital District Attorney and our nation’s greatest federal prosecutor. We have to keep the streets safe AND fight for America on the world stage. Amazing work and I am blessed to serve Donald Trump in this way.

Over the past few weeks, I have declined all requests from the press - except one interview with a DC local TV reporter Scott Thuman - he has a well-earned reputation for being serious and thorough. Here is his report:

On my own ...

Good early morning to you!

Life is very different for me and my family these days.

I am up earlier and into the office in downtown DC. Home late. Pretty tired by then.

Tons to learn. Tons to do. Tons and tons at stake.

Unbelievable good people in DC and such smart folks with whom I work.

Amazing.

Chance of a lifetime.

There is so much to tell you. One aspect: my new office is large. Big desk, computer table, and a small round table to meet with 3 others. No TV (thank you, Lord!).

I have so many photos of my family on a table and a big image of the merciful Christ on the wall near my seat. I brought a great photo of Phyllis with President Nixon and me with Rosa Parks. I put a copy of my bestseller “The Conservative Case for Trump.” The Bible on which I swore the oath is nearby. And lots more.

I spend all most all my day in that room. A lot happens and most if it comes to me. Pray for wisdom and kindness in all there.

Lots to tell you. Will write when I can. Thanks for loving each other and America.

Serving Trump

Good morning,

I wonder: What if Phyllis Schlafly was President? Or worked in the White House?

Next Monday, Donald J. Trump will be President. And I will be working in the White House.

On my wall, I will have a photo of Phyllis. And I will take it and all she taught into the White House.

My job title is Chief of Staff in the Office of Management and Budget. OMB is ops center of the entire government - money and directions flow from OMB. My boss, Russ Vought, is a great leader: bright, fierce and totally Trump.

My decade with Phyllis and the Eagles may be ending. But it won’t stop the deep love and friendships we have. John Schlafly is one of my closest friends. The Eagles around the nation are the best advisors and fighters I know. We will continue Phyllis’ work.

We have a nation to save and fellow citizens to love. Let’s go. I will miss you but I will see you just around the bend.

WYNK: The Meaning of Zuckerberg's Shift

Good morning,

Zuckerberg appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience last Friday and lamented over Facebook’s censorship policies from 2020. He blamed overreach by the Biden Administration and deep state operators, stating that they pressured Facebook into censoring so-called misinformation. Meta abolished all DEI initiatives on the same day and removed transgender themes from the Messenger app. Has Zuckerberg had a change of heart? Unlikely. Like any businessman, Zuckerberg wants to do what is best for his company. He senses that the energy in the country has shifted. Radical progressivism turns out to be only a small but vocal minority of the population, and almost everyone else is sick of it. Zuckerberg is changing his tune according to this realization.

As we head to Christmas, I find myself so thankful for people: my wife Carol and my family, my friend, John and our Eagle staff, and, well, everyone.

Life is such a gift … even when I have a good thing in my life life or a good event, it doesn’t compare to people. They are the best and it’s obvious to us and taught by the Lord: in the image and likeness of God, people.

And so too when we lose people from my life, I miss them in a way that is harder than any thing or event. It hurts.

Happy Christmas to each of you. I will pray to the Lord in thanksgiving for you.

Police in Aurora, CO, have detained 14 suspects linked to a series of home invasions and murders. Many suspect gang violence, considering the preponderance of Venezuelan gangs in Aurora. The narrative machine and corporate media accused Trump of spreading misinformation when he talked about these Venezuelan gangs during his campaign. Illegal immigration is turning into a violent invasion of our country. This must be stopped.

President Trump is coming back, and so are the tariffs. Tariffs are not just an economic tool, though. During his last administration, President Trump effectively used tariffs in geostrategic efforts against Iran. He plans to use them during his next administration to aid in deportation efforts. We know that tariffs protect domestic industry and discourage American corporations from outsourcing, but they have many applications outside of that!

Good morning,

Phyllis Schlafly was an early backer of Donald Trump in 2015. Not only did she believe he could win, she thought he was good for the country. She believed America needed Trump, and she was right.

Phyllis also believed in me. In 2013, I became Chairman of the Missouri GOP and therefore a member of the RNC. Phyllis called me up and she took me under her wing. She taught, corrected, edited, and showed me how things worked. Day after day, I saw her wisdom and her goodness. She inspired me.

Last week, the board of Phyllis's organization met in St. Louis. Our Chair, Marylin Shannon, led us … her ties to Phyllis are decades deep and she is a true American great. Even though it’s always strange to meet without Phyllis - it’s her place, her vision, her Eagles - we keep moving ahead. We discussed what might happen if President Trump asked me to work with him in the White House. That opportunity has happened, and I am honored to serve President Trump. I received this opportunity due to a lot of hard work, but mostly due to Phyllis. And I will bring everything Phyllis gave me to this job.

What Phyllis Schlafly Wrought

Phyllis Schlafly believed in Donald J. Trump in 2015. She was an early back, one of the earliest to see that he was a real leader.

On one level, Phyllis believed first and foremost that he could win the election - he was a fighter and he took on the media. He was made for this moment in American life.

But on another level, Phyllis believed that Trump was good for America. Really good. Great. She believed that he loved America and that he wanted to make it great again. She thought he saw possibilities in every American and distrusted the people wanting a world order. She believed American needed Trump.

Phyllis was right about Trump.

Phyllis also believed in me.

I first met Phyllis in the 1990s at various church and conservative events in Missouri. She backed me when I ran for Congress in 2010 when most did not (at least initially) … In 2013, I became Chairman of the Missouri GOP and therefore a member of the RNC. Phyllis called me up and she took me under her wing. She taught me, corrected me, edited me, showed me how things really worked. Day after day, I saw her wisdom and her goodness.

She inspired me. We backed Trump together and fought for the 2016 Platform in Cleveland. When she died in September 2016, I felt a loss like nothing I have ever felt for someone not in my family. I miss her still today.

Last week, the board of Phyllis’ organization met in St. Louis. Our Chair, Marylin Shannon, led us … her ties to Phyllis are decades deep and she is a true American great. Even though it’s always a little strange to meet without Phyllis - it’s her place, her vision, her Eagles - we keep moving ahead.

We talked about what might happen if President Trump asked me to work with him in the White House. We planned a little bit. We will have lots to say in the future. I plan to play a role as a volunteer and as an Eagle.

So, the opportunity with President Trump happened:

I am honored to serve President Trump. I received this opportunity due to a lot of hard work but mostly due to Phyllis. And I will bring every thing Phyllis gave me to this job.

One more observation. This one about John Schlafly with whom I have worked for over a decade now.

He’s one of the smartest guys I know. He knows history, policy and current affairs cold. AND he knows politics. He is great to work with and he even makes me laugh.

John embodies what was the secret sauce of Phyllis: smart on the issues, conservative in outlook, and savvy on politics. This blend makes all the difference. Being sincere and losing is not conservative - it’s selfish.

Finally, one great gift of my life was to see Phyllis and her son John during the final years of her life. John was as devoted a son as I have ever seen. While he spent the last 25 years of her life as Phyllis’ greatest ally - friend, son, and amanuensis - in those last two or three years, John gave Phyllis the chance to see Trump and to back him. John’s love for his mother and how he helped her are models for me: of holiness and a son’s love.

God blessed me with my family growing up and with an amazing wife and our children. I have more than I deserve - that’s for sure. And I thank God for them and for all His blessings - and for Phyllis.
