As a boy, I found in my family library a book that I think had the title “How to Speed Read” … the book is long gone but its impact remains: I understood that I could learn to read fast. And so I did ….
Which brings me to one of my favorite pastimes: reading new books sent to me by an author or his publisher. Because I can read fast, I can tell quickly what is worth more time and effort.

One more tip from me after reading thousands of books over the past decade: you can tell some interesting things about the author based on certain parts of the book including the introduction, acknowledgements, and even the dedication. Also, authors sometimes include a quote or two. Here is what Mike Waller included and its worth pondering:
