Both major U.S. political parties are gearing up for their respective national conventions where each will draft and adopt a new party platform. The Democrat and Republican parties have diverged from each other over the past few decades, seemingly at an accelerating pace. The Democratic Party will adopt many radical planks to its platform because the radical factions of the party hold significant sway. The Democrats often ignore their platform and focus instead on what will get them votes. No doubt, though, the Democrats will adopt increasingly radical positions on abortion both in the platform and on the campaign.
